Is the Air 2 control mode mutual communication between remotes and flashes?

Yes, just like the classic Air control (Air 1),  Air 2 mode is one-way communication from the remote to the flashes. We have kept it that way to reduce the need for idle wireless communication in the background as this with make flash sync capability less robust.
