Will the old battery for A1 work on the A1X and A10?

Modified on Thu, 15 Jan at 2:33 PM

Yes, Profoto batteries for the A-series are cross-compatible across the A1, A1X, and A10 models. However, the performance you experience will depend on which specific battery model you are using.

Performance Differences

While the batteries are physically interchangeable, the A1X/A10 Battery (High Capacity) offers significant improvements over the original A1 battery:

  • More Flashes: The A1X/A10 battery provides up to 450 full-power flashes, compared to 350 on the original A1 battery.
  • Faster Recycling: You will experience quicker recycle times when using the newer battery model.
  • Compatibility: You can use the original A1 battery in an A1X or A10 unit, but you will be limited to the original battery's lower capacity and slower recycling speed.

Charging and Maintenance

Both battery versions can be charged using the standard Profoto Battery Charger for A-series. To ensure the best performance and longevity of your batteries, we recommend using the newer high-capacity model if you are shooting with an A1X or A10 flash.

Note: Regardless of which battery you use, always ensure your flash has the latest firmware installed to ensure optimal power management and compatibility.
