The best option to remove dirt and oxidation from batteries and electrical contacts is to use a contact cleaner glass fiber brush. Can be find in any well assorted photo store.
It's also possible to use the top of a pencil and rub it gently on the contacts.
Preferably do not use any liquid solutions to clean the battery contacts to prevent oxidation.
